How I Work

The principles that guide my approach to software engineering.

I believe good software begins with understanding.

Over the past decade I've worked on complex software systems across the financial technology and electronic measurement industries. My work has included implementing new features, investigating difficult problems, refactoring legacy code and improving software that thousands of people rely on.

What I enjoy most is understanding how a system behaves. I like tracing unexpected behaviour, following execution paths and connecting different parts of a large architecture until the root cause becomes clear. Once something is understood, it can usually be simplified.

I'm comfortable working across different technologies and domains. Throughout my career I've contributed to projects using C++, C#, Python, Java, Bash, REST APIs and Angular.

I value clarity over complexity, thoughtful design over clever solutions and long-term maintainability over quick fixes. The teams I enjoy working with are curious, collaborative and committed to building software that lasts.

Beyond Engineering

Curiosity doesn't stop with software.

Outside engineering, you'll usually find me with a camera, a notebook or sitting at a piano.

I enjoy photography because it teaches me to slow down and observe. I write because it helps me understand ideas more deeply. Music reminds me that precision and creativity can exist together.

I'm endlessly curious about subjects like quantum computing, physics and space exploration. They continually challenge the way I think and remind me that there's always more to discover.

I believe the same curiosity that makes someone a better engineer also makes them a better learner, collaborator and problem solver.

As AI changes the way we build software, I believe the engineer's role is evolving from writing every line of code to understanding systems, asking better questions and making thoughtful decisions. Technology will continue to change, but curiosity, clarity and good engineering will always matter.

What I Enjoy Working On

The projects I enjoy most are the ones that invite curiosity, thoughtful investigation and continuous improvement.

  • Understanding complex software systems

  • Debugging and root cause analysis

  • Refactoring and simplifying software

  • Improving existing systems

  • AI-assisted software development

Current Focus

Looking ahead

Software engineering is evolving rapidly, and I find that incredibly exciting.

Today I'm focused on combining over a decade of engineering experience with modern AI-assisted development. Rather than seeing AI as a replacement for engineers, I see it as a powerful collaborator—one that allows us to spend less time on repetitive implementation and more time understanding systems, solving meaningful problems and designing thoughtful solutions.

I'm looking for remote opportunities where curiosity, autonomy and thoughtful engineering are valued as highly as technical expertise. I enjoy working with teams that appreciate long-term thinking, continuous learning and building software that lasts.
